Creative Original Doll Making
with
Joy Hawes

To a
collector of Antique Dolls and Original Dolls it was an
exhilirating experience
for me to discover Joy Hawes. I was convinced here was an
original doll artist
who would captivate many original doll collectors.
Joy has always had a strong interest in a wide range of arts and
crafts.
This interest was fostered over a 25 years teaching career.
Joy is eager to share her knowledge with others
and to pass on simple ways to quickly achieve results.
Joy has
certainly achieved recognition as one of the original doll artist
in Australia
having won top awards in major shows and in 1986 one of Joy's
dolls was awarded
the Gold E.M.A. at the Victorian Doll Convention.
Joy
models the features of each doll and demonstrates on her video
the complete process in creating original porcelain dolls.

"
Sarah " is a child arriving on the sailingship the Charlotte
with the First Fleet in 1788.
Her character is researched telling her story and followed
through
with authentic dress of that era.
A silver medal engraved by the convict Thomas Barrett
depicting the Charlotte is shown on the video.
The
video shows the viewer complete instructions of creating an
original doll,
making head, casting, painting, body making, dressing etc.
