A further selection of noted Australian
Artists
Alan
Martin

Like
all true artists there is a beguiling " simplicity " in
his method
that convincingly reflects nature and truth.
His portraits always show the inherent
dignity which is every man. The landscapes sing with affinity to
music and poetry. His still life pictures and flower studies
always capture a memorable freshness.
Alan is undoubtedly in the forefront of
Australian painters. He is an artist with strict standards of
judgment who detests humbug and the shoddy.
Alan Martin commenced painting at 11 years and attended classes with Max Meldrum at 15 years.
Alan studied design with Murray Griffin at
the Royal Institute of Technology and after the war
returned to Max Meldrum for a four year rehabilitation course.
Alan has won many awards, National Gallery
prize for design, First Prize winner at Whitefriars,
Toowoomba,
Moe, Bright, Mordialloc, Numurkah, Croydon, and Keilor.
Twice winner of the Arthur Streeton and Tom
Roberts award.
His paintings are represented at the Commonwealth Collection, The
Galleries of Rockhampton,
Castlemaine and Toowoomba, Latrobe University, Gippsland, Prince
Henry,
Royal Melbourne and Austin Hospitals.
Also in private collections throughout
Australia and Overseas.

Jill
Schmeling

"
Give me some colors, whether they be oils, acrylic, watercolor or
pastel,
a free day and a little classical music and I am away ".
The
beautiful Dandenong Ranges have been Jill's home for the past 35
years, and walking her dogs
early in the morning before the world stirs is her constant

sculptor Eric Bridges worked on the figures in the Australian War
Museum in Canberra.
Jill's father's family were also musical.
Jill says her history teacher at MacRobertson High once
wrote in her report book: " Jill's artistic talents will
take her far," but it was until 1978,
when her daughters were at high school that she resumed painting.
On Mondays Jill teaches at Sherbrooke Art Society.
" Taking someone who has never painted
before, watching their progress and sharing
in their excitement, is most rewarding," she says.
Jill was appointed judge for the Shire of Lilydale in 1985.
In 1990 she held a solo exhibition with total proceeds to World Vision Appeal.
Awards given to her are for watercolor painting, oils and pastels by distinguished artists,

Sue
Jarvis

" I admire most those artists who can capture the essence of
the subject
in its simplest form and color; my favorites being Cezanne and
Matisse.
I see any subject as being of interest to the painter, not
necessarily the picturesque.
Figures are of
friends in everyday situations rather than studio models."
