Born
in Melbourne in1939, Barbara demonstrated a natural ability to draw and
paint at a very early age. Her
obvious talent was recognized at the age of 12, winning several
children’s awards for her painting and drawing.
She has now realized her childhood dream, and has enjoyed a long
and a successful career pursuing her first love - painting. After marrying in 1960 and rearing three young children, Barbara set about establishing her career. In 1966 she took brushes and paint to canvas and has not put them down since. Although guided and influenced by several well-known Australian Artists she is basically self- taught. Her expertise has developed over the last four decades, and she is now an established and well-respected teacher in both oils and pastels, tutoring regularly at classes and workshops. To
Barbara painting is a passion, and sharing her gift is important to her.
She has demonstrated her techniques at Art Societies and Rotary Art shows
throughout Victoria since 1975, and over the years has judged many
of these events. As well,
she has won many major awards, which has gained her much recognition
throughout her career. Barbara paints mainly in pastels and oils these days, but she is also noted for her work in gouache and sometimes watercolour. Through these media, she captures with true colour and clarity of vision, her love of the Australian countryside. Her dynamic yet restful paintings are full of freshness, energy and movement, inviting all to share her enthusiasm and insights into the nature of things. Now
living back in Melbourne, Barbara still demonstrates her talents, and also
conducts workshops on request. Over the years Barbara has held over 25 solo exhibitions as well as exhibiting in many joint exhibitions with fellow artists. More recently (1998 & 2000) she had two very successful solo exhibitions in England UK. Her works are represented in corporate collections throughout Australia, UK, New Zealand, Canada and the United States.
